Our mission is to serve injured workers and Ohio employers through expeditious and impartial resolution of issues arising from workers' compensation claims and through the establishment of adjudication policy.
The Industrial Commission is seeking an experienced claims examiner with a customer focused background who can handle assigned claims following agency guidelines and procedures, someone who can adapt to change and remain professional while working with OIC customers.
The selected individual must have strong customer service skills, must pay attention to details and produce accurate work product and have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
What You'll Do:
Under general supervision prepares 1st and 2nd level claim issues for hearings and hearing officer review using personal computer applications (CAS, ECM, Case Manager, Share Point, ICON, BWC applications) for data retrieval, verification, resolution, tracking & organization.
Reviews issues according to established Workers' Compensation laws and Industrial Commission rules, policies and procedures.
Utilizes time management skills to meet deadlines / legislative time frames.
Uploads and verifies accuracy of documents uploaded by internal / external customers to ensure an accurate hearing folder.
Answers inquiries from internal and external customers regarding the claims process / claims status.
Backs up the customer service counter as assigned.

Skill in operation of personal computer.
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; apply principles to solve practical everyday problems; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; handle routine inquiries from & contacts with injured workers, medical providers, employers, or their representatives; complete routine forms & prepare standard reports.

This position is filled through an assessment consisting of a computer-based test, written exercise, and a structured interview.
The computer-based & written exercise portion of the assessment will be administered in person at the William Green Building in Columbus, Ohio.
The structured interview will be conducted in person at the Logan District Office.
Unless required by legislation or union contract, external candidates can expect starting salary to be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases during and/or after completing probation and following successful annual performance review periods, for applicable positions.
Background Check Information The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position.
An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
