This position provides a great opportunity to effect change in Hocking County and the City of Logan by working complex, high-level felony cases through all stages of the proceedings, starting with investigation and indictment through prosecution in court.
This attorney will prosecute exclusively the felony docket in Hocking County Common Pleas Court regularly on Mondays through Thursdays, and will review and approve cases for presentation to the Grand Jury when not in court.
Essential Functions:
Evaluate cases and make appropriate plea offers Conduct legal research and respond to motions filed by defense counsel Analyze, appraise, and organize facts and precedents to present in a clear and logical form Work closely with Victim Advocate to confer with victims of crimes pursuant to Marcy's Law Prepare and prosecute felony cases in jury and bench trials Make charging decisions following review and evaluation of police reports in light of applicable law Determine alternative courses of action and anticipate possible courses of action of opposing counsel; use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions Request any necessary evidence on cases as part of review Review and approve indictments for presentation to the Grand Jury and aid other prosecutors in presenting the cases to the Grand Jury Represent the State of Ohio in felony arraignments - Work closely with the Prosecuting Attorney and Chief Investigator in the investigation and preparation of felony allegations for appropriate charges and prosecution strategy Job Type:
